2021 Visintini, Sauvignon Blanc | Friuli Collio Orientali, Italy

Varietal(s): Sauvignon Blanc

Vineyard Management: Certified organic, practicing biodynamic

Winemaking Techniques: Native Yeast, Stainless tanks, occasional battonage,

Typicity: Typical. I adore Sauvignon Blanc from this portion of the world.

Bio: The three Visintini siblings (Oliviero and his twin sisters Cinzia and Palmira) were handed the reigns of the family winery in 2002 and have carried on their father's legacy of excellent quality and thoughtful viticulture.

It began with their great-grandfather who bought the Castle of Gramogliano and surrounding vineyards in 1884. Their father Andrea that expanded their agricultural holdings to 25 hectares, and with Oliviero's persistence, converted their lands to organic farming.

The siblings now implement biodynamic practices in the vineyards and follow a their shared philosophy of doing as little in the winery as much as possible. Fermentation is always with native yeasts and while they experiment with amphora, stainless tanks and barrel-that's about as much intervention as we'll see from them.
