Bio: When Bernard Burgaud inherited his father's vineyards in the 1980's, he set himself to the work of replanting the steep schist slopes overlooking Ampuis and creating his own label. Bernard took what he learned studying oenology in Beaune to craft an understated example of the intricacies of Syrah. In 1982, Domaine Bernard Burgaud was official.
From all of their small parcels scattered mostly throughout Les Moutonnes and Côte Blonde, Pierre and Bernard only bottle one wine - Côte-Rôtie. Almost everything they do is by hand, making it almost impossible to make any more that the 1,000 or so cases each vintage.
Their focus is now on reducing carbon emissions and looking for preventative methods to combat climate change. We look forward to Pierre's continued stewardship of the Burgaurd Côte-Rôtie.
