Lopez de Heredia ‘Viña Tondonia’, Tempranillo Blend | Haro, Rioja Alta, Spain
Varietal(s): 75% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha with Mazuelo + Graciano
Vineyard Management: Practicing Organic
Winemaking: Native yeast fermentation in large oak vats
Vegan: No; fresh egg whites are used for clarification. No other additives.
Typicity: Not only Typical for Rioja, but Heredia is the benchmark for what we would consider red, white and rosé Rioja of all age classifications.
Bio: Family owned and operated in Haro since Don Rafael broke ground on their Bodega in 1877. Heredia is the oldest winery in Haro and one of the very few that grows and bottles estate fruit for their entire line. Tradition tempered with the ability to adapt with innovation has allowed this bodega not only to survive for well over 100 years, but to be a beacon of quality and international renown.
I will always love these wines. If you ever see their whites or rosé, snatch it up-they're hard to find.
